Hypoallergenic Baby Formulas

Hypoallergenic Baby Formulas

When your baby is beginning to experience signs of an allergy towards formula milk, it can be quite the heartache.   When the body has trouble digesting dairy, it will react to the proteins like a foreign invader, like the flu.  This is how allergies are created as the body begins to fight back.

Hypoallergenic formulas are typically partially or fully hydrolyzed proteins. In most cases, American formulas have more non-diary ingredients such as corn & small amounts of hydrolyzed proteins.  In European Hypoallergenic formulas, the ingredients are far more better for your infant & higher quality.  After all, the European nation would never let their infants consume corn syrup & sugar as a primary source of nutrition, they have a much higher standard in food practices.

Types Of American Hypoallergenic Formulas:

Enfamil Nutramigen- The first ingredient in this formula is Corn Syrup Solids (48%).  This formula is unfortunately one of the more popular formulas used today for babies with allergies.  It may be designed for infants to avoid their milk allergies, but the ingredients are very questionable.  The taste is horrific & many infants reject it due to the taste. What goes in must come out = very stinky diapers.

Similac Alimentum- This formula is made up of mostly Corn Maltodextrin and the third ingredient believe it or not is sugar.

These are the most popular, doctor recommended products for allergies in babies on the market today.

We do have to question if giving a baby corn syrup and sugar is a good solution to the problem.  Babies who are given sugar at a young age have been proven to develop sugar addictions (stronger then cocaine!) and have weight issues for their lifetime as well as develop other life threatening issues such as diabetes and leukemia.

Soy Formulas

Many parents will turn to a soy based formula for milk allergies.  Soy has high levels of estrogen and has proven to disturb hormonal development in children.

 Goat Milk Formulas

As of 2018, there is no Goat Milk formulas for babies under 1 year of age approved by the FDA.  However in Europe they have discovered that Goat Milk is a excellent alternative to cows milk and is much easier to digest.  For babies that are experiencing more milder forms of allergies such as constipation or diarrhea,  Goat Milk formulas are the excellent choice.  Goat milk is used in most other countries in the world.  Humans are not designed to digest cows milk.  This is why you see so many adults with allergies to cows milk but have no problem digesting goats milk.  The proteins in Goat's milk are much smaller and like human milk.

Is It Really An Allergy?

Many parents come to us with symptoms.  The most common is constipation, diarrhea, red skin, fussiness, colic & not willing to eat.  In many cases, this isn't really an allergy, this is a inability to process the junk found in American formulas. Humans were designed to eat one thing for the first 12 months, breastmilk.  However we know that in todays day and age, this isn't possible for everybody & we respect that!  As parents of 2 children ourselves, our kids were breastfed until 5 months of age.  After that we went thru a battle of trying to find a formula that was going to work.  We found Earths best would give our son diareha due to the DHA and Baby's Only would cause constipation due to the rice syrup.  One formula to the next, issue after issue. And the smell of each of these formulas was just repulsive to boot!

European formulas in general are easier to digest.  WHY? There are fewer ingredients, less lactose, nothing synthetic & most are made with grass fed cows milk.  Ever tried grass fed milk over corn fed milk?  There is quite the difference!  In some of our formulas, the milk is actually raw, preserving the much needed antibodies that little humans need to develop immunity & grow into healthy adults.

Our Suggestion For A Hypoallergenic Formula

Hipp Hypoallergenic: The Hypoallergenic protein diet contains milk which is split in simple molecules. This reduces the risk of allergies. The protein formula used in Hipp is completely hydrolyzed and was proven by studies to prevent allergies. A low-allergen diet cannot give complete protection but reduces the risk of allergies in infants. The HA formula should stay constant for 4 to 6 months in order to produce best results. A small amount of non-hydrolyzed protein can promote sensitivity and destroy the benefits of the low-allergen diet.

Hipp Hypoallergenic is produced in Germany.  It has Natural Lactic acid found in breastmilk. It has omega 3 & 6 for brain development. It also contains valuable fibers (galactooligosaccharides) derived from lactose & tailored to the specific nutritional needs of allergy-challenged infants.

Hipp Hypoallergnic is designed for infants without a "hard core" milk protein allergy already.  It is best for infants that are experiencing more mild forms & aren't doing well on the traditional formulas.

Before hydrolization, the proteins can only be partially digested
After hydrolization, the proteins are fully digestible

 In Conclusion

We would start by recommending a European formula as a better alternative to American formulas and if you feel your infant is in need of a Hypoallergenic formula then you cannot go wrong with Hipp Hypoallergenic.

Please speak to your pediatrician if your baby is experiencing symptoms.  It is best to be sure your infant is not having symptoms of other issues first.
