Best Sunscreens For Babies & Kids AND Anyone With Sensitive Skin or Eczsema

Best Sunscreens For Babies & Kids AND Anyone With Sensitive Skin or Eczsema

Sunscreens have a rotten history of toxic chemicals being used.  If a sunscreen is more dangerous then exposure to the sun, then why use it?

Of the 1,400+ sunscreens tested by the EWG, only 5% met their safety standards and over 40% were listed as potentially contributing to skin cancer.

Many sunscreens also contain methylisothiazolinone, which the American Contact Dermatitis Society named as its “allergen of the year”

Most sunscreens completely block the body’s ability to manufacture Vitamin D. Statistically, 75% of us are deficient in Vitamin D and Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to higher risk of cancer and heart disease (which kill more people than skin cancer per year).

At Little Moo Organics, we agree the best sunscreen on the market for babies, kids & adults is Childs Farm.

Childs Farm new formulation 50+SPF suncream is for very high protection, it is water resistant and protects young and sensitive skin from UVA and UVB rays, whilst keeping skin moisturised and hydrated. So you can relax while you and your children enjoy the sun safely.

Child's Farm Cured My Babies Eczema and my Psoriasis & Rosacea

Child's Farm Cured My Babies Eczema and my Psoriasis & Rosacea

Eczema is incredibly irritating, itchy and frustrating skin condition that many babies suffer with.  As a parent, it is hard to watch your baby suffer with dry skin & you wish you can find a product that would actually cure this annoying problem.  We hear from parents who say Child's Farm has proven effects & they will never go another day with out it.

Sarah Evans from Colorado said her baby had been suffering eczema for 4 months.  She had spent hundreds on shampoos, creams and nothing would cure it.  She heard about Child's Farm baby products and tried the Fragrance Free Body Wash and the Moisturizer.  Within 3 days she saw results.  It was the first time she had seen her babies skin clear in months.  Her baby was less fussy and mom was less fustrated.

Amy Monson from New York had been suffering from Psoriasis for years.  It was a condition of dry, itchy, scaling skin that crept around her hairline.  Her kids had been using Child's Farm Baby Moisturizer on their sensitive skin so she thought she'd give it it a try.  After 2 days she saw results!  She continued to use the Sensitive Scalp Shampoo by Child's Farm and has never looked back.

Madison Georgetown from Oregon has 2 children with extremely sensitive skin.  So sensitive that they would break out in rashes with even the most mild of shampoos & soaps.  Madison came across Child's Farm Shampoo & Conditioners one day and found this was the only product that their children never would react to!  She takes her Child's Farm shampoo's on vacation, to the pool & Grandmas house, she doesn't dare trying another product.

Mary Charleston from New Jersey had really severe Rosacea and was very self conscious about it.  Makeup would make it worse & moisturizers designed for Rosacea would only cause painful irritation.  She heard about Chid's Farm products and gave the Baby Moisturizer a try.  After 4 days her skin was as clear as little girls.  She felt great in her skin, no more pain, no more irritation, she felt free.

Abigail Thompson from Colorado had a son who would get the worst diaper rash after an acidic poop.  She wasn't happy using destain due to the toxic chemicals found in there but natural creams didn't seem to do anything either.  She bought Childs Farm Diaper Cream, applied it daily and never saw diaper rash again on her sons extremely sensitive skin.  Her son cries less & is a much happier baby now that he doesn't deal with daily diaper rash.

Child's Farm has received dozens of awards for their quality products with organic ingredients, free from anything toxic and the best cure for skin conditions.  Child's Farm is the best choice for your new borns sensitive skin.  You can feel comfortable knowing your child's skin is not absorbing anything it shouldn't be.

Goat Milk Formula Comparision

Goat Milk Formula Comparision

Goat milk formulas are becoming very popular.  It is hard to decide which formula to start with.  There is never one single formula that will work for every baby, you may find yourself going thru a little trial and error to get the right fit for your baby.

Nanny Care/Bambichen Vs. Holle Goat Milk

(Nanny Care & Bambichen are virtually the same product)

The major difference between the two milks is Holle Goat Milk uses maltodextrin & Nanny care does not.  Maltodextrin is used in place of lactose & may be a better option for babies who are sensitive to lactose.  Maltodextrin is also a carbohydrate used in formulas.  Nanny Care uses lactose as their only source of carbohydrate.

Holle Goat is also certified organic.  Nanny Care is not.  It is very expensive to become organically certified & Nanny Care as a company chooses to not become organic.  The milks however are GMO free & hormone free and you can feel good knowing that New Zealand (Nanny Care Milk) has the highest quality milk production in the world.

Holle Goat doesn't contain any preservatives & contains just one synthetic vitamin L-methione.  Nanny Care contains two synthetic vitamins L-Carnintate & Taurine.  However, because Goat milk does not contain the natural vitamins found in cows milk, they must be added to be suitable for infant consumption.

Both formulas are made with Goat Milk do not contain any cows milk.  And both formulas are based on a whole milk product.

Nanny Care Vs. Bambichen

Nanny Care & Bambichen are very similar.  The only difference between the two is Bambichen milk is heat treated and Nanny Care is pasteurized.  Heat treated milk is a balance between pasteurizing and not pasteurizing.  It kills the potentially dangerous bacterias while preserving the taste.

Bambichen is slightly more expensive then Nanny Care due to the heat treated process & small batch production.

Hipp Comparison Charts

Hipp Comparison Charts

Hipp formula is a very popular formula but there are many different variations which can confuse parents.  The reason for the different variations is due to every country having different regulations on what can be and cannot be in baby formulas.  Each type of Hipp is from a different country.  We will break down the differences by stage so it will more closely relate to your needs at the age range your baby is at.

The major differences between the three is the UK version does not contain the probiotics like the other two variations and the German version is the only one to contain starch.

The major differences between these three are the Uk Version does not contain probiotics like the other two, the German version is the only one to contain starch & both the UK and German versions both contain soy, the Dutch version does not.

The major differences between these three are the UK & Dutch versions both do not contain probiotics, the UK Version doesn't contain whey (the other two do), UK & Dutch do not contain Starch (German does) and all 3 contain soy.

Colic & The Formula Fed Baby

Colic & The Formula Fed Baby

Colic is the condition of which a baby cries non-stop.  Basically colic is when your baby is uncomfortable & gassy.  Colic should not be considered a normal part of your babies life.  In most cases if your baby is breastfeed, there is something in your milk that your baby is having a hard time digesting.  If your baby is formula fed, she is not tolerating the formula you are giving her.

Gas Is Normal

Gas is very normal & babies should be easily passing gas.  When they struggle, you will see your babies belly bloated & hard to the touch.  They may draw their legs up tightly or hold their breath in an attempt to "poop".  When a baby is constantly experiencing gas, they become colicky.

Quick Ways To Help With Gas

Rubbing your infants tummy in a clockwise motion has help release some gas.  A warm bath or even homeopathic colic remedies such as gripe water.

Curing Colic

Colic can be worse in some babies more then others.  In most cases, it is totally fixable or at least can be reduced.  If you are breastfeeding, evaluate what you eat & drink, as everything passes into your breastmilk.  If you are bottle feeding, study the ingredients in your formula.  If you have tried many different formulas, what do they all have in common?  What formula worked better then the other?

It is a fact, humans were not designed to digest cows milk.  Some digest it better then others, but a large majority of the population will get uncomfortable cramping when they consume it.  There is a difference between lactose intolerance & allergies.  Lactose intolerance will be mild pains in your stomach, you may feel nauseated & uncomfortable.  An allergy is when you cannot breath or your skin will turn red.  For most babies, they will have a mild lactose intolerance (aka Colic).  When a baby is experiencing tummy pain, she will often drink more to try and alleviate the pain or refuse the bottle all together.

Formulas For Colic

The worst thing you can do is switch your baby to a soy based formula.  There are dozens of reasons why, but we completely highest suggest staying far away from soy based formulas.
Sometimes just switching your baby from one formula to another will be your instant cure.  But often times, its not always that easy.  For us, our son was extremely colicky, we found that he was unable to tolerate American formulas.  Once using Holle European formula, he was able to digest it easier & therefore cried much less.  With our daughter, we found she was never as colicky as our son, but the only formula she could truly ever tolerate well was Nanny Care Goat Milk formula.

Unfortunately we cannot personally recommend any formulas sold in the United States as a "easy to digest" formula.  Most formulas contain too many ingredients or have certain ingredients are not designed for optimum digestion.  Don't believe the labels that say "closet to breastmilk" and do not fall for the DHA/ARA marketing scam.  In fact, DHA/ARA is one of the leading causes of diarrhea in infants & should not have ever been approved by the FDA for consumption.

The best rule of thumb is less is best.  Trying to find a formula that's got the latest scientific research with the latest thought to be required ingredients will not benefit your child.  One that has simple, easy to digest ingredients is the best solution.

European Formulas For Colicky Babies

There is not one formula that fits all.  And you may spend a great deal of time & money trying to find the best possible solution for your baby.  But once you find that answer, it will all be worth it.  European formulas are much better for babies, not just because they carry the highest standards in the world for baby formulas, but because they do not believe in adding unnecessary ingredients to formula.  Our children in the USA are subjected to GMO research, preservatives, sugar, for syrup, fertilizers, hormones & even some contain ingredients found in cleaning products.

When you begin to study the ingredients on the label of your baby formula, you will feel the utter disgust that we did when we first starting researching the best formulas in the world.  Did you know that many formulas contain a toxic ingredient called Dioxin that is known to cause cancer, diabetes & mess around with your hormones?  Or that fluoride is actually added to your babies formula?

Besides the fact we see a lot of scary stuff on the labels, you have to consider how this may be affecting your babies insides.  And you may begin to paint a picture on why your baby is having such a hard time with the formula she's on.

Which Formula To Start With

After you have studied your current formula label, try to evaluate what may be causing the problem.  This is easier said then done.  We always recommend to parents to start out with Holle Cows Milk Formula.  Why? Because its basic & easy to quickly discover which ingredients could be making your baby uncomfortable.  The only ingredients are milk, maltodextrin & oils.  There are some babies who are of course intolerant to milk, others that can be intolerant to corn.  But we believe this is a great place to start.  If after 3 days your baby is still uncomfortable, consider a goat milk formula such as Nanny Care or a formula with prebiotics that will help with digestion such as Hipp Formula.  If your baby is still uncomfortable, consider a formula designed for babies with colic, Hipp Comfort.    Hipp Comfort is actually made with hydrolyzed proteins, a special fat blend to aid in digestion & reduced lactose.

Talk To Your Naturopathic Doctor

We cannot encourage you enough to find a naturopathic doctor for your baby.  These doctors spend their time looking for fixes vs putting a bandaid on the issue.  They will listen to your concerns & help you come up with a better solution to the problem.  Appointments will typically be one hour vs 15 minutes & they will want to listen.  We have personally had many different doctors for our children & we have found they want to not only label everything, but give you a pill for it too.  Their time is limited, their knowledge of nutrition is limited & they are about finding a cure quick & easy without a thought to consequence.  Our son's doctor prescribed him anti-reflux medication at age 3 months of age, we said absolutely not.  A different doctor tried to push ADHD medication on him at 5 years of age, when he was not even considered to have had ADHD.  Always be sure to be your child's best advocate.  And find a provider that has their needs at heart.

Feeling Guilty About Formula Feeding?

Feeling Guilty About Formula Feeding?

Some mothers who formula feed feel this endless pit of guilt.  And as a mother myself who chose to formula feed after pumping 12 times a day for 6 months and having a excellent supply of breastmilk, I felt a absolute terrible person but the depression it caused, the anxiety & the lack of sleep; I had no choice but to discontinue for my own sake.  Some will cause this move completely irresponsible & "unfair" to the child.  I could not more disagree.  Some moms absolutely enjoy breast feeding while others feel uncomfortable about it.  Some moms physically cannot breastfeed or do not make enough milk.  Whatever your reason may be, do not put that guilt on your conscious.

Will I Bond the Same With My Baby If I Don't Breastfeed?

Absolutely!  It is not the breastfeeding process that creates a bond, its the time you spend holding your baby, singing to your baby & skin on skin time.  Bottle feeding allows for other members of the family to feed your baby & bond as well. It also can allow for a better night sleep for mom, since dad can help out with the feedings & feedings are generally not as long with bottle feeds.

Is Formula Equivalent to Breastmilk?

The short answer is no.  And no formula will ever be anything like breastmilk.  However, children have been raised on formula since 1865 & there is no sturdy research to prove that these kids were any worse off then children that were breastfed.  Research actually shows that while in utero, especially in the first 2 weeks of conception, are the most critical times that will shape the future health of your child.  This is why it is recommended to stay away from certain foods, eat leafy greens, stay away from processed foods & absolutely no alcohol/drugs.  Sure there have been studies to say kids who were breastfed had this or that better, but there can be many factors including genetics that play a critical role in how healthy one will be.

Does My Bottle Contain Toxic Ingredients?

Even when a bottle is labeled BPA free, it doesn't mean it is free from hundreds of other chemicals that can leach into a baby formula.  Due to this reason, we either suggest not ever putting boiling water into the bottle OR only using a glass or stainless steal bottle.

What Formulas Are Closest To Breastmilk?

Since there is no baby formula that equivalent to breastmilk, the next best thing you can do is feed your baby a clean, organic formula.  Stay away from similac, enfamil, gerber or any other company that uses corn syrups, pesticides, fertilizers, hormones & preservatives in their formulas.  Organic is incredibly important if buying  an American formula, otherwise you are sure to to be feeding your child some pretty frightening chemicals.  European formulas have a far higher standard then America.  The best formula for simplicity purposes would be Holle.  Holle has just a few ingredients, it is tasty & very easy to digest.  Not all infants will respond the same to every formula, so it may take a few different formulas to find the right one.

Will My Baby Miss Out On Colostrum & Other Important Breastmilk Components?

Technically speaking, yes.  However, there are alternatives to these components worth trying such as probiotic colostrum powders that you can add to the milk.  If you are able to pump milk for a few days, even if you do not intend on breast feeding, the first milk that comes out is the most important and may help your child be sick less often & have better immunity.

Should I Feed My Baby Soy Formulas?

There are some vegan parents out there that have a preference for feeding a soy based formula.  Or babies who are not responding well to cows milk.  Soy is a terrible product to feed infants.  Soy contains estrogen's that can cause harmful effects on your babies growth & alter his/her hormones.

"Toxicologists estimate that an infant exclusively fed soy formula receives the estrogenic equivalent of at least five birth control pills per day. By contrast, almost no phytoestrogens have been detected in dairy-based infant formula or in human milk, even when the mother consumes soy products. A recent study found that babies fed soy-based formula had 13,000 to 22,0000 times more isoflavones in their blood than babies fed milk-based formula."

Which Formula Should I Feed My Baby?

The downside to formula feeding is that is expensive.  And it may be tempting to reach for a costco can of Kirkland Signature formula but we advise perhaps cutting back on other expenses as quality nutrition for your baby helps set her up for a healthy future.  Any European formula will be a good choice or your baby.  They are of limited ingredients, have the highest organic certifications you can find (which is not a trend folks! Organic=none toxic chemicals ending up in you babies body) and the ingredients are very limited.  Babies are designed to digest breastmilk & European formulas are designed to be just as easily digested as breastmilk.  That is why your baby will be happier, less colicky, his stools will smell sweet vs sour & her skin will be clear.

A Note On Lactose- It's Not Always An Allergy!

A Note On Lactose- It's Not Always An Allergy!

If It's Not An Allergy, What Could It Be?

Many healthy, thriving breastfed & bottle fed babies develop gastric symptoms, such as; excessive gas and frequent, watery bowel movements (only when associated with other symptoms) due to lactose overload, which is associated with large, frequent feeds. These symptoms cause tummy pains. A baby with tummy pain can appear to be hungry because he seeks to feed in an attempt to relieve this discomfort, (which it does but only temporarily). However, the extra feedings could further add to the vicious cycle of lactose overload and gastric symptoms.  Lactose overload - also called 'functional lactase insufficiency' - is a common but poorly recognized problem affecting countless numbers of breastfed and bottle-fed babies in the early months of life. The number of babies affected is unknown owing to the transient nature of the symptoms associated with this problem. The distress experienced by babies suffering GI discomfort due to lactose overload is typically dismissed as ‘its normal’ or misdiagnosed as colic, reflux, lactose intolerance, or milk protein allergy or intolerance.

When Does It Affect Babies Most?

Newborn babies are very susceptible to lactose overload due to their involuntary sucking reflex which disappears around 3-4 months old. It is triggered by pressure on the baby’s hard palate by the mother’s nipple, the nipple of a feeding bottle, a pacifier, the baby’s fist, or a parent’s finger. Once the sucking reflex has been triggered, the baby will suck regardless of whether she is hungry or not. Because a reflex is an involuntary, automatic response, she cannot not suck. The presence of a baby's sucking reflex increases the risk of overfeeding if parents are not careful, especially in the case of bottle-fed babies.

What Causes Lactose Overload?

Baby’s are designed to digest lactose, many cannot digest excessive amounts.  Larger amounts of milk that travel thru the intestinal tract will be pushed thru quicker, and unable to be digested properly.  It is the amount of milk that is in the intestines at any given time that causes the problem.

As milk begins to drain from the small intestines this stimulates the gastro-colic reflex. This reflex causes contractions of the intestinal wall, which then pushes the contents along. It’s the body’s way of making room for the new feed. (The gastro-colic reflex action is why newborn babies often poop or pass gas during feeding and grunt at times.) If a baby is fed again before the lactose in the previous feed is fully digested, the gastro-colic reflex may push some of the undigested lactose from the previous feed from the small intestines through to the large intestine

Once there are undigested lactose in the large intestine, this is when the trouble starts.  Undigested lactose will draw in excess water from the intestine walls thru a process called osmosis.  Then the intestinal bacteria will begin to ferment the undigested lactose. The end result for baby is bloating, intestinal cramps, frequent watery/sloppy, foul smelling bowel motions, and lots of farts. Stools are acidic and can scald baby’s little bottom if left in contact with the skin too long.

Once your baby starts to feel pain, she will cry out for a bottle for comfort.  When this happens, the baby is consuming again too much milk & lactose so the cycle will repeat itself again.

Symptoms:

  • A formula-fed baby’s bowel motions tend to be sloppy and foul smelling.
  • Bloating
  • Cramps
  • Excessive gas (farting) - foul smelling.
  • Irritability/screaming.
  • Sleeplessness or wakefulness.
  • Baby appears to be constantly hungry.
  • Baby gains large amounts of weight (which is not the case when a baby is lactose intolerant).
  • Baby is usually less than 3 months old, but in some cases this problem can continue up to the age of 5-6 months.
  • The baby might also spit up or regurgitate milk (not due to lactose overload but rather overfeeding which causes
  • symptoms of lactose overload).
  • Fussing during the feed and bearing down.
  • Extreme grunting in early hours of the morning.

Lactose Allergy Vs. Lactose Overlaod

The GI symptoms associated with lactose overload and lactose intolerance are due to the fermentation of undigested lactose in the large bowel.  Hence, the GI symptoms for both problems are the same. A baby troubled by lactose overload will have false positive results when tested for lactose intolerance.  These tests check the baby’s stools (poop) for indications of acid, which is present when lactose is fermented in the large bowel (which will occur with both problems).

In the case of lactose overload, it’s the excess lactose, beyond what is normal, that the baby has trouble digesting.  Although irritable due to GI discomfort, the baby is physically well and gaining weight well.  [Rarely, a breastfed baby might display poor growth as a result of this problem.]

In the case of lactose intolerance, the baby is unable to digest normal amounts of lactose.  This means the baby, whose main or only source of nutrition is milk, will be deprived of the calories that lactose provides (while she is fed milk containing lactose).  She will quickly become unwell and lose weight.

Why Lactose Is Import For Babies

Lactose aids in the absorption of calcium and phosphorus and supports the growth of good bacteria in the intestinal tract. (Good bacteria are a major player for prevention of bacteria & disease).

Galactose, a simple sugar that comes from the breakdown of lactose, is vital to a healthy brain and nerve tissues. Galactose can be found is some foods, but milk containing lactose will be a baby’s only source of galactose during the early months - an important time of rapid brain growth and development.

Glucose, the other simple sugar that bonds with galactose to form lactose in milk. Glucose is essential for energy, growth and cell development. Without glucose in the diet a baby will use body fat as a source of energy, and lose weight. A baby will not survive if deprived of glucose for a long period. Most foods, including lactose-free milk, will be broken down or converted into glucose in the body.

Preventing Lactose Overload:

  • Use a slow flow nipple for the entire duration of the first year
  • Do not feed little & often.  Feed as your baby requires and allow adequate time between feedings.  Estimate how much formula your baby needs
  • Try to encourage your baby to go 3-4 hours between feedings during the day
  • If your baby is drinking a bottle in under 10 minutes, use a slow flow nipple & take frequent breaks
  • Allow your baby to be done with her feed when she signals, do not encourage her to keep drinking
  • Learn your babies feed cues vs sucking needs

Babies who are no longer experiencing lactose overload will have less frequent stools & sleep better.  Making adjustments to the way you feed your baby will be the ultimate best thing you can do for her.  Try these things before assuming your baby is lactose intolerant.  The better formulas for your baby will be non-hypoallergenic types, but ones made with simple ingredients.  Remember, babies have a desire & reflex to suck!  Don't get this confused by hunger.  As always, always speak to your pediatrician if you have concerns.

Drinks To Avoid Giving Your Children

Drinks To Avoid Giving Your Children

When our son's 8 year old friend came to our home one day and asked where the drinks were at and I replied, "here is a cup, there is water in the fridge", and her response was "no I meant where are the drinks? Like soda?"  I began to realize that there is a real problem in society with drinks for children.  The countless times I have seen kids at restaurant drinking soda & babies drinking apple juice from bottles, is enough to really make me cringe.  In this blog, I talk about why it is not only a bad idea but a dangerous idea to get your child hooked on anything else besides water & milk.

#1- Soda

Some parents will believe that its okay to give their kids sprite because it's caffeine free or diet because its free from sugar.

Things to consider:

- Children who drink soda are more likely to become obese
- Soda will also suppress an appetite  so kids are less likely to eat healthy wholesome foods.
- Children who consume soda will typically become deficient in essential vitamins needed for growth & brain health
- Soda's also contain phosphorus which has been proven to cause brittle bones in children.
- Soda's contain acids which will also dissolve tooth enamel in as quickly as 20 minutes & of course cause cavities
- Caffeine in soda also messes with your child's brain chemistry, causing unstable moods
- Soda can contain other toxic chemicals that don't belong in your child's body such as MSG, artificial flavors & acids.

When you are giving your child sprite, you may be saving her from the caffeine, but she's consuming a frightening amount of sugar.  Some parents will think no big deal, my child is skinny and needs the calories anyway.  However sugar goes beyond the calories.  Sugar causes acne in teens, increases the risk of diabetes (even in those who are skinny), it causes inflammation in the body as well as cancer (cancer also loves to feed on sugar), increases risks of depression, drains energy, creates a fatty liver & more.  Sugar is also very additive.  Did you know that sugar is more addictive then cocaine?  Ever been a sugar addict & tried to stop eating/drinking sugar for a day (or even a few hours?), the withdrawals are real.  Brown soda's contain caramel coloring, which sounds delicious right?  Wrong, Caramel coloring is in no way related to caramel.  This chemical created to turn your soda brown has proven to cause cancer & the state of California is even required to carry a warning label on drinks containing more then 29 micrograms of Caramel coloring.  One can of Pepsi One has 29 micrograms in it. We have to wonder how our FDA could possibly allow for this completely unnecessary ingredient in sodas?

Zero Sugar & Diet Drinks

Diet soda's are extremely toxic to your child.  They contain aspartame which many studies around the world say aspartame use have led to brain tumors, brain damage & liver cancer.  It can also cause dizziness, headaches, heart palpitations & memory loss.  There is even one case where many Desert Storm soldiers, who drank warm diet soda drinks, came home suffering from symptoms similar to those in people with fomaldehyde poisoning.  Diet soda's also cause weight gain.  They create the same insulin trigger like sugar does which sends your body into body fat storage mode.  Like with sugar soda sodas, diet also contain acids which will kill the enamel on your child's teeth. Research compared the mouths of a cocaine-user, a methamphetamine-user, and a habitual diet-soda drinker, and found the same level of tooth erosion in each of them. The culprit here is citric acid, which weakens and destroys tooth enamel over time

#2- JUICE

Parents are led to believe that juice is healthy for children.  When in fact it is the complete opposite.  Fruit juice contains just as much if not more sugar then soda.  This can cause excessive weight gain, tooth decay & sugar addiction.  Children given juice were more likely to avoid eating healthy meals & become more dependent on liquid sugars.  In one cup of apple juice, you will find 24g of sugar which is equivalent to 6tsp or 6 sugar cubes.  Don't be fooled by the "100% juice label" either, these juices most often times always contain excessive amounts of sugars. A better option?  Squeeze a fresh orange or press a fresh apple for your child once in a blue moon as a treat.  Stay away from the store bought juices.

#3- GATORADE

Gatorade was originally invented for professional sportsmen that needed to replenish their electrolytes & carbohydrates in their bodies to keep them from falling ill after a hard workout.  However, most people who consume gatorade today are not athletes in strenuous work.  A bottle of Gatorade contains 36g of sugar which may be slightly less then a soda, but a whole ton more sugar then any human needs to consume.  The sodium found in gatorade is also not a healthy amount for people who are sedentary, and especially in children.  The low calorie version of gatorade contain's very unhealthy artificial sweeteners which have proven health consequences.  There are also food dyes in Gatorade which have been proven in studies to cause hyper activity in children (over-diagnosed ADHD cases) & cancer.  Gatorade is by far one of the worst "lab created" drinks you could give your children, stay away!

#4- Flavored Milk

It's a common misconception that just because it's milk but has some added flavoring, it must still be good for kids right?  Absolutely... Incorrect.. When a child consumes chocolate milk, they are consuming twice as much sugar as you'd find in regular milk.  Flavored milk also creates a "sweet palate" for your child, making it harder to switch back to regular milk or water.  Many chocolate milks can also contain other ingredients to sweeten up the flavor such as high fructose corn syrup.  One type of chocolate milk 'TrueMoo' actually contains liquid sugar & cocoa is one of the last ingredients.  It also contains carrageenan, which is banned in Europe as its proven to cause cancer.

Choosing A Healthy Alternative

Water- Water is the life source of your children bodies ability to function!  Make sure your kids are consuming fresh, filtered water (of course free from fluoride).  The recommended daily amount of fluids is: 5 glasses (1 litre) for 5 to 8 year olds. 7 glasses (1.5 litres) for 9 to12 year olds. 8 to 10 glasses (2 litres) for 13+ years.  Your child can start drinking water as early as 6 months of age to start getting her used to it.

Coconut Water- An excellent choice for kids in sports activities & needing hydration!  Coconut water has a much lower sugar content then sodas for kids that need a boost after workout.  Most coconut waters do not contain any scary ingredients either.

Fresh Whole Milk (Raw is even better)- Getting farm free organic grass fed milk is a great treat for your child.  Raw milk has been given a bad reputation over the years for being dangerous.  However, there are to be further concerns with milk nowadays which is homogenized.  When a milk is homogenized, the original form of the fat is changed.  The body then processes the milk completely differently.  Studies have shown this may lead to heart disease.  One study even said:

"Homogenization is the worst thing that dairymen did to milk. Simple proteins rarely survive digestion in a balanced world.  Milk is a hormonal delivery system. With homogenization, milk becomes a very powerful and efficient way of bypassing normal digestive processes and delivering steroid and protein hormones to the human body (both your hormones and the cow's natural hormones and the ones they were injected with to produce more milk).  Through homogenization, fat molecules in milk become smaller and become 'capsules' for substances that bypass digestion. Proteins that would normally be digested in the stomach or gut are not broken down, and are absorbed into the bloodstream...Homogenized milk, with its added hormones, is rocket fuel for cancer."

In conclusion... set your baby up for a successful future.  Give your babies a European formula thats free from Corn Syrups (AKA: Powdered Soda For Babies) & dangerous toxins that have known to cause cancer in lab rats.

In todays society it is hard to tell a child no when it comes to sugary drinks, this gives you an opportunity to educate your child on why it's dangerous to consume these drinks (and younger the better!).  Our 5 year old Benjamin is well educated about why Soda is bad for kids, so when he caught our babysitter giving our 1 year old daughter a sip of soda, he promptly said to her " you can't give kids sugar, it is bad for them".  And was not afraid to argue why even a sip was not okay for her.  We are proud that our child was educated in such a way so we can set him up for a better future.  We  cannot encourage teaching enough so your child can make decisions for herself vs being told she cannot have something.

Happy drinking!

Goat Milk For Baby Dry Skin, Eczema & Cradle Cap

Goat Milk For Baby Dry Skin, Eczema & Cradle Cap

Babies can develop dry, flaky skin as well as cradle cap in their first few months of life.  In most cases, it will resolve by 6 months of age.  In some cases the cause for skin problems can be the formula you are using such as an allergic reaction, a body wash or bad hygiene.

Dry Skin

Dry skin is quite common in babies and happens mostly when babies are over-bthed.  When giving your baby a bath, do not use a bubble bath or harsh soap.  It is recommend to use a soap thats mild & meant for infants.  If you are bathing your baby more then twice a week in the first few months, it is best to use only water if your baby is developing dry skin.  We recommend if needed as daily soap, the best, non-harsh one to use would be a goat milk bar soap.  Be sure its free from scents & coloring.  Also be sure to keep it out your babies eyes.  Goat Milk has many nourishing properties on the skin & will keep your babies skin soft & moist.  We also recommend when using lotion on your babies skin, that you use a Goat Milk based lotion thats not scented.

Eczema

Eczema is usually caused by an allergic reaction.  It is genetic & it will never fully go away but can be kept at bay with proper diet or staying away from the allergen causing the flare up.  Eczema is small red bumps that start on the neck and upper back and extend down to the torso and into the arms and legs.  These spots usually are accompanied by dry skin. The bumps may even fill with fluid and burst open when irritated.  For a infant suffering from Eczema, we do recommend trying a Hypoallergenic formula as the proteins are hydrolyzed (meaning broken into to smaller pieces) and easier to digest, parents have found this has helped with eczema breakout.  The use of a Goat Milk Soap & lotion have also proven benefits to helping the skin be less inflamed.

Cradle Cap

Cradle cap is similar to dandruff in some ways & is very common.  It will usually go away by 6 months of age.  The cause of cradle cap is still unknown.  It may stem from overactive sebaceous glands, a fungal infection, or both. The sebaceous glands are found in the skin and produce an oil-like substance, known as sebum.  The best treatment is to use a very mild, non oil based shampoo or soap to gently clean the scalp.  Be sure to not use baby oil or oily lotion on the cradle cap as it can make it worse.  We recommend using a Goat Milk based bar soap thats unscented & color free.  The healing properties sound in Goat Milk have proven to help out breaks in cradle.

How Do Goat Milk Soap & Lotions Help?

Goat milk contains alpha-hydroxy acids such as lactic acid which help remove dead skin cells from your skin’s surface. This leaves new cells on the surface of your skin that are smoother and younger looking. Water-based soaps may use harsh chemical acids to accomplish this, frequently with skin-damaging results.

Goat milk contains many vitamins, but is particularly high in Vitamin A, which is necessary to repair damaged skin tissue, and maintain healthy skin. There have been several medical studies showing that creams made with Vitamin A reduce lines and wrinkles, control acne.  Water-based soaps can be artificially fortified with vitamins, but most aren’t.

Goat milk contains important minerals for the skin such as selenium. Selenium is believed by scientists to have an important role in preventing skin cancer. Selenium can also help prevent damage to the skin from excessive time in the sun.
