The Best Baby Bottle Of 2018

The Best Baby Bottle Of 2018

We are given so many options for baby bottles nowadays and it we rely on the feedback of others to decide which one is best for our baby.  When formula feeding a baby, it is also very important to pick out the right bottle as so many factors come into play immediately and down the line.

Glass, Plastic or Stainless Steel?

Plastic is never a good choice for drinking hot liquids.  Even if the bottle is BPA free, there are many other dangerous chemicals that will leach into your babies milk from the plastic when boiling hot water is poured into it.  We recommend staying away from plastic under any circumstance.

Glass is a great choice but heavy & breakable.  Once your babies starts to hold her own bottle, she will start to throw her bottles.  Once this happens, you will start to see a lot of broken glass bottles.  However, they do not contain any dangerous toxins.  The other problem with glass is it's heavy, when bottle feeding a baby, it can get quite tiring holding a heavy bottle & inhibits your baby from holding it as well.  Glass also gets very hot on the outside so be very careful when giving your baby a bottle after initially making it.

Stainless steel bottles are the absolute best choice in baby bottle.  Not only do they regulate the temperature in the bottle, but the heat will not transfer like it would with glass.  Stainless steel is incredibly hardy and almost impossible to break (unless you accidentally run over one with your car like we did, but it took a lot of force!).  They also have interchangeable tops so as your baby falls in love with her bottle, switching over to a sippy top becomes less of a nightmare.

Anti Colic Straws?

Doctor brown bottles now have these long straws that release air from the formula. We personally believe this is more or less a gimmick.  The other problem with these bottles is there are so many parts included that when you lose a part, the bottle isn't useable any longer.

We believe a better option is anti colic nipples & correct feeding practices.  Anti Colic nipples release air bubbles in the milk as it comes closer to the teat, thus your baby doesn't swallow the bubbles.  Also after mixing your babies formula, allow it to settle for a few minutes (some formulas become very bubbly), then open the lid to release air and feed to baby.

What Is The Best Baby Formula Closest To Breastmilk?

What Is The Best Baby Formula Closest To Breastmilk?

There are dozens of baby formulas available today.  Most will have enticing advertisements about how this formula is better or helps your baby grow or makes your baby smarter! We would like to start off by saying, any advertisement you see on a can of formula, just ignore & walk away.

Why Stay Away From The Advertisements?

Formula companies have a lot of competition and their single purpose is to make money off of you.  They have to find ways to compete with the other formula companies so they will start to add unnecessary ingredients to their formulas to make them seem better.  At the end of the day, its one big marketing scheme & may be affecting your baby for the worst.

The DHA/ARA Marketing Scam

In 2002 a single formula company created a DHA/ARA from hexane extracted algae.  They slapped a label on the container saying "DHA/ARA for brain growth".  Parents went crazy thinking that their infants were missing out because their formulas didn't contain this special ingredient.  Not too long after, every formula on the shelf contained DHA/ARA and to this day it is hard to find a formula without it.  The problem DHA/ARA is its 100% synthetic and has no proven benefits for infants, only causes digestive upset.  Babies will be more colicky, sleep worse & many have severe diarrhea.

In Europe they ban these ingredients in formulas as its toxic & not nessecary.  Instead, they add fatty oils such that have PROVEN beneficial for brain growth.

No Growth Hormones/ Non GMO Labels

Formula companies recognized that consumers were becoming aware that their children were consuming hormones from cow milk & were the lab rats of America, testing out the ever so debated GMO's.  So they slapped a label on their formula saying " No Growth Hormones" & "Non GMO ingredients".  Seems like an improvement right? Not really.  While they may have removed a couple of the dangerous things found in baby formulas, it's not even close to where it should be.

-Carageenan- Banned in Europe, causes inflammation in the gut. Found in most ready to feed formulas

-Sugar-Sweetened (Syrup solids, Maltodextrin, Sugar) – In many U.S. popular formulas, they use these type of sweeteners in them. These aren’t natural for a baby & only a lactose sweetener should be used in formulas. This will be the closest sweetener to breast milk for a formula. The European Union banned the use of sugar in formulas because of the increased risk of childhood obesity and overeating.

-Taurine, L-Carnitine and L-Methionine, Lutein, Lycopene, Nucleotides- These synthetic ingredients are BANNED in the European Union in organic formulas. These ingredients are also extracted using neurotoxins, like hexane. These are typically healthy for our bodies but the source of which they come from is not good.

Is there a single decent formula sold in the United States?

In our opinion, not really.  There are choices that better then others but every single formula we found had soy, DHA/ARA, GMO's, synthetic ingredients, preservatives & more.  If you were desperate for something, we would recommend Happy Baby Organic Formula.  It at least is non-gmo, no corn syrup/added sugars, no synthetic DHA/ARA, no carrageenan & no synthetic ingredients.

The Best Formula for Optimal Digestion & Growth

There is no doubt the best formulas come from Europe.  However, Holle formula's takes the cake for the best formula for 2018.

Holle formula is as pure as it gets.  The ingredients are farmed with Demeter Certified practices which is the highest certification any farmer could accomplishment.  This mean from the soil, to the air, to the animals, everything is perfect.

The company was founded in 1933 and has uncompromisingly rejected chemical processing and preservatives from the very beginning. Learn more about the history of the company and celebrations here.

You aren't going to find anything dangerous in these formulas.  Maltodextrin & palm oil are the two most talked about ingredients in Holle but these ingredients are used out of necessity.  Why?  Maltodextrin replaces a large portion of lactose found in formulas, too much lactose can cause a dairy allergy in infants.  Palm oil is a high fat oil (from sustainable farming practices) that is proven very beneficial to brain growth.  Over 85 years of research has gone into Holle formula.  They have never lowered their standards to meet the current "trends" and they are all about purity & doing it the right way.

Holle Cow Milk

Holle formula comes in 3 stages for the English boxes & 4 stages for the German boxes.  There is no difference in the English & German boxes.  We recommend you purchase a English box so you can properly see the box & read all the directions.

Holle Goat Milk

The Holle Goat milk formula comes in 3 stages for both English & German.  There are some slight variations in the nutritional content between English & German.  We again recommend purchasing a English box if you do not read German.

What's Wrong With American Formulas?

What's Wrong With American Formulas?

Parents will typically come across European formulas when they've hit a wall with their babies formula.  Some have chronically unhappy babies that are suffering from reflux, colic, diarrhea, constipation & allergies.  We were in this situation 5 years ago and there were no other options that worked for our infant along with our standards of formula.  There was no way we would give him Similac, but every Organic formula seemed to make him ill.  So we began the research process.  American formula companies love to test out their formulas on your children to see what works & what doesn't.  Formulas in the USA are all about the right advertising.  Companies will put remarks all over the packaging talking about why all these extra ingredients will benefit your baby.  When really it is one big marketing scam.

What's In American Formula's?

More and more parents are becoming educated about what's in their food as GMO's acts have been hitting the walls in the country.  However, we go beyond the GMO's in this blog and talk about other ingredients that can be found in many popular American formulas.

Corn Syrup:  Corn syrup is what you will find in most soda beverages.  It's a cheap sugar & made from GMO corn.

Pure Sugar/Sucrose: American formulas taste gross & they smell gross! In order to get infants to accept the taste, they add sugar or sugar like substances to sweeten it. This has been banned in Europe as it linked to a obesity issue in infants.  One study found that certain baby formulas contained up to 13.5g of sugar per serving.  To put that in preservative, there is 4g of sugar in one packet of sugar.  It is not required for companies to list the sugar content on their baby formulas.

Soy:  Soy has  been in recent years proven to alter hormone levels in babies by creating too much estrogen. Soy based formulas are extremely difficult to digest. Soybeans are inhibit the ability for the body to absorb nutrients.

Cupric Sulfate (copper sulfate): A herbicide, pesticide & fungicide.  It is also used to prevent growth of algae in pools & is considered a dangerous irritant to the environment.  It's used in formula as a drying property.  One study on adults exposed to copper sulfate experienced diarrhea, vomiting & abdominal pain.

Perchlorate: A chemical found in rocket fuel.  Used in 15 major brands. High levels of perchlorate (thousands of times higher than the doses estimated to result from consumption of infant formula or breast milk) affects the thyroid gland by blocking its ability to use iodine

Melamine: Used in plastics & adhesives.

Artificial DHA & ARA: Derived from fungus & algae.  Has proven to have  no effect on brain growth when synthetically made.  Cause's diarrhea

Carrageenan: A stabilizer or thickening agent, studies have proven inflammation in the intestines & colon cancer.  Found in most ready to feed milks. BANNED IN EUROPE

Besides the fact there are some frightening ingredients found in American formulas, there are far too many.  Your infant was designed to digest breastmilk, when thats not possible, formula is the next best thing.  Infant digestive systems are brand new & still figuring out this whole new world of digestion.  The formulas found in Europe are simple & limited in ingredients.  This makes them a million times easier to digest, thus less colic & gas pains.

Ingredients In European Formulas

Parents have voiced some concerns about what's in the European formulas.  We will talk about the ingredients used and why:

Maltodextrin:  Holle European baby formula contains small amounts of this in place of sucrose (sugar).  It also eliminates a good portion of lactose so that the formula is easier to digest.

Palm Oil: Mixed with other oils, it is in small amounts, needed for brain growth & development.  It has nutritional similarities to palmitic acid, a nutrient found in breast milk. Palm oil has a number of benefits as it contains vitamin E and beta-carotene.  Beta-carotene is connected with vision development.  Palm oil may also prevent vitamin A deficiency.  As a natural fat, it brings balance into the cardiovascular system with its combination of good cholesterol and bad cholesterol.  A diet with palm oil is a diet high in vitamin K.  This is good for bone health and helps blood coagulate.

Rapeseed Oil (Canola):  Omega-3 fatty acids are receiving more and more attention. In infancy, they are especially important for the normal development of brain and nerve cells. In the first 2 years of life, the brain grows unusually fast, so a regular intake of Omega-3 fatty acids is crucial.  One of the best vegetable sources of Omega-3 fatty acids is rapeseed oil. Rapeseed oil contains particularly high amounts of Omega-3 – ten times more than olive oil, for example. The favourable fatty acid structure of rapeseed oil is very effective in helping the body to process these essential Omega-3 fatty acids.

Soya Lecithin: This is not the same thing as found in soy based formulas.  It is used as a thickening agent.  Formulas in Europe do not use toxic solvents to extract.

Europe has been developing formulas for over decades.  With a strict food regulation in place in regards to nutrition & what should in the formula, Europe produces the best formulas on earth.

As many parents have soon to discover, the foods we consume here in the United States are less then healthy for us.  Independent food manufactures are taking back the industry with whole foods, less preservatives & less "stuff" in our foods.  We are slowly learning that our food system is corrupt and not in the best interest of Americans.

At Little Moo Organics, we go thru the difficult process of importing European baby formulas so you have the best options available for your infant.

Hypoallergenic Baby Formulas

Hypoallergenic Baby Formulas

When your baby is beginning to experience signs of an allergy towards formula milk, it can be quite the heartache.   When the body has trouble digesting dairy, it will react to the proteins like a foreign invader, like the flu.  This is how allergies are created as the body begins to fight back.

Hypoallergenic formulas are typically partially or fully hydrolyzed proteins. In most cases, American formulas have more non-diary ingredients such as corn & small amounts of hydrolyzed proteins.  In European Hypoallergenic formulas, the ingredients are far more better for your infant & higher quality.  After all, the European nation would never let their infants consume corn syrup & sugar as a primary source of nutrition, they have a much higher standard in food practices.

Types Of American Hypoallergenic Formulas:

Enfamil Nutramigen- The first ingredient in this formula is Corn Syrup Solids (48%).  This formula is unfortunately one of the more popular formulas used today for babies with allergies.  It may be designed for infants to avoid their milk allergies, but the ingredients are very questionable.  The taste is horrific & many infants reject it due to the taste. What goes in must come out = very stinky diapers.

Similac Alimentum- This formula is made up of mostly Corn Maltodextrin and the third ingredient believe it or not is sugar.

These are the most popular, doctor recommended products for allergies in babies on the market today.

We do have to question if giving a baby corn syrup and sugar is a good solution to the problem.  Babies who are given sugar at a young age have been proven to develop sugar addictions (stronger then cocaine!) and have weight issues for their lifetime as well as develop other life threatening issues such as diabetes and leukemia.

Soy Formulas

Many parents will turn to a soy based formula for milk allergies.  Soy has high levels of estrogen and has proven to disturb hormonal development in children.

 Goat Milk Formulas

As of 2018, there is no Goat Milk formulas for babies under 1 year of age approved by the FDA.  However in Europe they have discovered that Goat Milk is a excellent alternative to cows milk and is much easier to digest.  For babies that are experiencing more milder forms of allergies such as constipation or diarrhea,  Goat Milk formulas are the excellent choice.  Goat milk is used in most other countries in the world.  Humans are not designed to digest cows milk.  This is why you see so many adults with allergies to cows milk but have no problem digesting goats milk.  The proteins in Goat's milk are much smaller and like human milk.

Is It Really An Allergy?

Many parents come to us with symptoms.  The most common is constipation, diarrhea, red skin, fussiness, colic & not willing to eat.  In many cases, this isn't really an allergy, this is a inability to process the junk found in American formulas. Humans were designed to eat one thing for the first 12 months, breastmilk.  However we know that in todays day and age, this isn't possible for everybody & we respect that!  As parents of 2 children ourselves, our kids were breastfed until 5 months of age.  After that we went thru a battle of trying to find a formula that was going to work.  We found Earths best would give our son diareha due to the DHA and Baby's Only would cause constipation due to the rice syrup.  One formula to the next, issue after issue. And the smell of each of these formulas was just repulsive to boot!

European formulas in general are easier to digest.  WHY? There are fewer ingredients, less lactose, nothing synthetic & most are made with grass fed cows milk.  Ever tried grass fed milk over corn fed milk?  There is quite the difference!  In some of our formulas, the milk is actually raw, preserving the much needed antibodies that little humans need to develop immunity & grow into healthy adults.

Our Suggestion For A Hypoallergenic Formula

Hipp Hypoallergenic: The Hypoallergenic protein diet contains milk which is split in simple molecules. This reduces the risk of allergies. The protein formula used in Hipp is completely hydrolyzed and was proven by studies to prevent allergies. A low-allergen diet cannot give complete protection but reduces the risk of allergies in infants. The HA formula should stay constant for 4 to 6 months in order to produce best results. A small amount of non-hydrolyzed protein can promote sensitivity and destroy the benefits of the low-allergen diet.

Hipp Hypoallergenic is produced in Germany.  It has Natural Lactic acid found in breastmilk. It has omega 3 & 6 for brain development. It also contains valuable fibers (galactooligosaccharides) derived from lactose & tailored to the specific nutritional needs of allergy-challenged infants.

Hipp Hypoallergnic is designed for infants without a "hard core" milk protein allergy already.  It is best for infants that are experiencing more mild forms & aren't doing well on the traditional formulas.

Before hydrolization, the proteins can only be partially digested
After hydrolization, the proteins are fully digestible

 In Conclusion

We would start by recommending a European formula as a better alternative to American formulas and if you feel your infant is in need of a Hypoallergenic formula then you cannot go wrong with Hipp Hypoallergenic.

Please speak to your pediatrician if your baby is experiencing symptoms.  It is best to be sure your infant is not having symptoms of other issues first.

Baby Constipation/Straining, Gas, Colic, Diarrhea and Reflux

Baby Constipation/Straining, Gas, Colic, Diarrhea and Reflux

These 5 aliments are incredibly common in infants.  Almost every infant will suffer from one or the other at some point in the first year.

What Can I Do To Stop It?

This question has so many answers.   First lets break down the different symptoms and talk about each one.

Constipation/Straining

Almost every baby will suffer with constipation in the first few weeks of life.  Their little bodies are adjusting to this new world of breastmilk or formula. When you switch your baby from different formulas or from breastmilk to formula, you will most always see constipation for a day or two.  If your baby seems incredibly uncomfortable & is straining, thats when its cause for concern.  Many babies will poop once a day, others will go multiple times.  If your babies poops come out very solid and round, that's a sign of constipation.  Other times when your baby is adjusting to new formulas, she may not go for a few days then have a huge blow out.  You may also see many different changes in colors of the poop.  Breastfed babies have tan colored/seedy poops.  While formula fed babies tend to have darker poops.  However, with babies fed formula from Europe, the poops will resemble breastmilk, as the ingredients are so much easier to digest & closest to breastmilk.

What can you do for a constipated baby?

If your baby is still constipated after a week, then you may need to try something new.  For some infants its a matter of changing formulas to find the one that better agrees with their bodies.  We recommend Hipp formulas for constipated babies, as it contains prebiotics that assist with setting up the digestive tract for better digestibility.  The ingredients are also very easy to digest and babies love the taste.

Hipp Stage 1 (0- 6 months)

Hipp Stage 2 (6- 12 months)

Hipp Stage 3 (12 months+)

Gas/Colic & Bottle's To Prevent Gas

Gas is a tricky one.  Every baby will have gas.  In most cases gas comes from inhaling too much air while feeding.  This can happen in both breastfed & bottle fed infants.  There are special bottles out there such as doctor brown that claim to reduce gas but we personally believe that gas is a matter of its gonna happen no matter what.  As parents ourselves, we have spent hundreds on bottles, only to find the cheapest ones work no different from the expensive ones.

What can you do for a baby with gas?

The best thing you can do is to frequently burp your baby often.  Babies are unable to burp themselves until they are at least 6 months of age.  When babies start to sit up, they are able to start burping naturally.  Burping doesn't have to be in the form of patting your babies back, rubbing in circles with firm steady pressure up and down your babies back can also release the bubbles.  Rubbing your babies little buddha belly is another way, use clockwise circles with the tips of  your fingers.

Babies with non-stop painful gas

If your baby is experiencing gas all the time and burping isn't relieving her., you may want to consider switching formulas.  A formula that works for one baby may not work for another.  If your baby is extremely painful you may want to try Hipp comfort milk.  This formula is specially designed for babies that suffer with bad gas & colic symptoms.  Hipp Special Comfort contains prebiotic galacto-oligosaccharide fibers like those found in breastmilk; as well as probiotic cultures which nourish and strengthen the gut and immune system. It also contains Beta-Palmitate, another substance found in breastmilk, which aids in the metabolism of fats, calcium absorption; and is important to the proper formation of stools and gut health.

What is colic?

Colic is when a baby cries for an extended period of time.  It is believed that colic is caused from excessive gas. If your baby suffers from colic, you can do something about it!  Switch the formula you use or evaluate what you are eating/whats getting into your breastmilk.  Colic should never be considered a normal part of a babies young life.  Switching over to a formula such as Holle Organic Formula which is so very to digest and has limited ingredients, may be all your baby needs to find relief from colic.  Sometimes it can take trying a few different formulas to find the right one, but it will end up being worth it.

Diarrhea

Diarrhea is something most infants will have at one point or another.  Babies will have liquidity stools, however if your infant is having blow outs and they are happening frequently, this is considered diarrhea.  Diarrhea will cause your infant to have nothing more then the worst diaper rash you've ever seen.  In many cases, the skin will turn raw, red & be extremely painful to the touch.  First, we don't recommend using baby wipes on the raw skin but rather taking your infant to the sink and lightly cleaning away the feces with warm water then patting dry.  You may even need to leave your babies diaper off for a hour or so to dry out the area.

How to prevent & how to cure?

Prevention is always key with diarrhea.  However, its envitable as babies bodies are always changing.  However, if your baby is experiencing diarrhea daily, you may want to consider what's in your formula causing it.  Many parents have found that the synthetic DHA found in most American formulas causes diarrhea in babies.  This is one ingredient you will a absolutely not find in European.  Yes you will find DHA/ARA however, it is not exacted using dangerous toxic hexane & the types of DHA used in European formula are of natural sources such as egg & oils.  Formula companies will try to convince parents that DHA/ARA is an essential part of their babies growth and without it, they cannot possibly end up as intelligent as their breastfed counterparts.  This is simply not the truth and there has never been any proof in this claim.  The Cornucopia Institute has reported on babies experiencing symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea that resolve with a switch to a DHA- and ARA-free formula, as well as instances of dehydration and seizures requiring hospitalization. If you are looking for a DHA/ARA free formula we would recommend

Holle- Highest levels of organic certification, extremely easy to digest, lower level of lactose due to the use of maltodextrin, essential fatty acids used for brain growth, cow & goat milk options.

Nanny Care- Goat milk based formula from New Zealand, no maltodextrin used, full fats goat milk used, very easy to digest, babies LOVE the taste.

Lebenswert- Stage 1 is free from maltodextrin but has added lactose, stages 2 & 3 contain starch to give your baby a more satisfied feeling

Acid Reflux, Silent Reflux & Projectile Vomiting

These  symptoms are not only extremely messy but disheartening to watch your infant suffer from.  Babies who suffer from Acid Reflux may even refuse to eat as they associate eating with the pain.  Babies with silent reflux will feel the pain but with no spit up to accompany it, which leaves many parents scratching their heads as to what's causing their infant to feel so uncomfortable.

What causes it?

There is a small valve that every person has that keeps the contents of our stomachs from ending up back in our throats.  When that valve is too relaxed, the acids from the stomach end up in our throats.  With infants in particular, they are consuming only liquids so they may end up being more prone to these particular issues.  The other problem is we tend to lay our infants down right after eating, which will cause the formula to come straight back up again.  Babies who consume too much food at once are also more likely to experience reflux.

Projectile vomiting ( also know as forceful vomiting) on the other hand is when your baby vomits like young Regan on the exorcist. When a baby has forceful vomiting, the muscle in the lower part of the stomach, called the pylorus, builds up and blocks the flow of food into the small intestine. There's no mistaking the gushing, which usually starts a few weeks after birth.  If your baby truly has this problem, she will need to see a doctor to be sure she is not dehydrated and may end up needing stomach surgery to correct the problem.

What can I do to prevent or stop it?

Reflux is one problem I feel is 100% preventable in both adults & babies.  For babies, it is very common, if its mild, taking simple steps like propping your baby up after she eats, not letting her consume a whole ton of formula at once and making sure she's on a formula that agrees with her.  European formulas in general are easier on the body, closest to breastmilk & digest better!  Switching to anyone of our formulas for baby with mild reflux, can pretty quickly solve the problem.  For others with more severe reflux, you may want to consider Hipp Anti Reflux.

Hipp Anti Reflux is a gentle, organic, thickened milk formula that is suitable for the dietary management of reflux and regurgitation. The addition of the natural thickener carob bean gum allows the formula to thicken in the bottle, helping the formula to stay down. HiPP anti-reflux milk can be used from birth as a sole source of nutrition or as part of a varied weaning diet from six months.

If your baby has projectile vomiting, please call our pediatrician immediately !

Our Experience

We personally have two children.  Our first born son Benjamin had every issues mentioned in this article.  It was not the best experience for a first time mom at all.  When Ben was 6 months old, we put him exclusively on formula and thats when the problems started.  Long story short, it took a good month of research for us find out about European formulas.  After we imported Holle  and saw these amazing initial results, it couldn't be kept a secret.  When other parents began to see a huge difference in their child, we knew these formulas were quite literally the miracle that America needed.

With our second child Madelyn, she was breastfed until 4 months of age.  She was a little more tricky as we did try 3 different formulas to find the perfect one for her.   Her miracle formula was  Hipp formula, which she was on for about 4 months then we moved her over to Nanny Care which she is still on today ( at 16 months old).  She much prefers the taste of Nanny Care to regular cows milk so we have no problem keeping her on it.  Holle didn't agree with her as well as Hipp did, and this is something you will see in your own infant, as no two infants are exactly the same.

A Teething Medicine That Works?

A Teething Medicine That Works?

When our daughter Madelyn began experiencing major teething pains at age 14 months, we were desperate for a solution.  Her molars where coming in fast and furiously.  She'd be shoving everything in her mouth and screaming at the same time.  This once happy little girl was always crying and chasing me around for comfort.  It was not only impossible to get anything done but it was heartbreaking watching the tears fall everyday.  We came across Hylands Baby Oral Relief and gave them to Madelyn for a test run.  Within a few minutes she was laughing, crawling around and playing with her toys.  Thinking it was jut a fluke, I tried again the following morning.  She was once again crying, begging to be picked up and just miserable.  I put two little white tablets on the floor, she ate them and within a few minutes, all better!
I had used Tylenol almost daily previous to trying out Hylands.  Tylenol I rarely use due to the dangerous toxic effects but I felt I had no choice.  But even with Tylenol, it took over a hour to work and even then it never worked fully.
I believe Hylands Oral Teething Tablets are a miracle.  For anybody who's baby is suffering from teething pain, give these a try and watch your babies mood change drastically.
Whole Milk Constipating Baby? Shouldn't My Toddler Drink Whole Milk?

Whole Milk Constipating Baby? Shouldn't My Toddler Drink Whole Milk?

Doctors will say switch your baby to whole milk the day they turn 1 year old.  Why the urgency we ask?  When we brought our baby into the doctor, this was the first thing he said.  So of course we put her on whole organic milk.  Turns out her little body wasn't ready for that switch.  We found that the milk was causing her extreme constipation, gas and fussiness.  When we switched her back to her Nanny Care stage 3 formula, she was pooping normally within a few hours.

So why did she struggle?  It's hard to say really.  Maybe there was too much fat? Maybe it was the pasteurization?  Maybe it was the homogenization? Maybe it just wasn't broken down the way her body needed it to be.  After all, European formulas are rich in nutrients, most are not pasteurized or homogenized to preserve nutrition and the ingredients are simple and done right!

Our little girl may be 14 months old, but she is still very much a baby.  We don't believe she's getting nearly enough nutrition out of her solid foods to discontinue formula, even if she was doing okay on whole milk.  So we cannot personally agree with the doctors need to cut her off from her formula at this time and we will continue to use it until she's 2-3 years old, just like we did with our first child "Ben".

If you are looking for a quality toddler formula, may we suggest

Nanny Care 3

Holle 4

Hipp 3

Holle Goat 3

Lebenswert 3

We do discourage you to stay away from brands such as Similac, Pediasure & Enfamil.  The ingredients found in these formulas are quite horrific, from corn syrup, pure sugar, straight soy & many preservatives.

We always recommend talking to your doctor in regards to your babies health, however, as parents, we always encourage you to do what you feel is right for your infant.

Does My Toddler Need Formula?

Does My Toddler Need Formula?

Pediatricians will recommend switching to whole milk at age 1.  However, we would most definitely recommend a toddler formula if your child is not eating a completely healthy diet.  The typical diet of children today consists of carbohydrates and very little vegetables or healthy whole foods.  A toddler formula will aid in competing your child's diet so she can be sure to receive the nutrients her body needs.

We do not recommend however, using a sugary drink such as pediasure.  These types of drinks are mainly used for gaining weight & are full of added sugars, preservatives and very little nutrition for your child.

The best options will be

Hipp Stage 3

Holle Stage 4

Nanny Care Goat Milk Stage 3

These growing up milks are suitable for kids ages 1-3 years of age.  They are meant to compliment a solid food diet and typical kids will drink 6-12 oz, 1-2 times per day.  It is best to not allow your child to fill up on formula milks and always encourage healthy eating habits.

Always feed growing up milks in a sippy or big kid cup as sucking on a bottle can lead to teeth decay & growth restrictions.
